A little I like about me….

June 9, 2010 | Category: Uncategorized

I figured that I can’t very well encourage you all to do tasks twice a month unless I have done them myself, so here I am ready to jump in and tell you what I like about myself courtesy of the first task of my Finishing School Workshop.

Wow, I can see why only six of you have jumped in so far, this is no easy task….

So, what do I like about myself?

  • I like my self motivation. If I want to do something I just get on and do it.  I am not one of these people who worries that I can’t/shouldn’t/won’t do things, I tend to just jump in at full throttle and get on with it, usually with lashings of ridiculously revved up enthusiasm. I guess this blog is testament to that.
  • I like that I look good when I dress up and make an effort and having discovered in recent months that this is a huge like I now make sure I look good every day. It definitely lifts my spirits if I look in the mirror and see myself well turned out.
  • I like my surgery scars.  This is a weird one I know, and I sometimes wonder if it’s a case of making myself like them in order to be able to live with them.  I don’t think so. I don’t exactly like their appearance, I would prefer to have a beautiful flat and smooth tummy but when I did have a beautiful smooth tummy what was underneath was hell. My scars are never going to go away and they show quite clearly what I went through to get here today.  Massive surgery is a difficult thing to move on from and my scars affirm that I really did have it happen to me, I really did survive and I am really lucky. I see them everyday and everyday I’m grateful for what they represent – a new start.  That sounds so mushy and naff but it’s the truth, I really do feel like that and that motivation is helping me realise my dreams which could never be a bad thing.
  • I like that i’m kind and generous and very loyal.
  • I like that I have rhythm and musicality and can dance, dance, dance.  Dancing invigorates me as well as keeps me fit.

Aside from a wonderful ten year marriage (unusual nowadays) and two beautiful children, my biggest achievement has got to be the fact I am now healthy.  It took ten long years but I was determined that one day I would and although I wish the result could have been achieved less drastically and much more quickly i’m glad it was achieved at all.  It took absolute determination and a will power I never knew I had to get through such dark times but in the end it all worked out – i’m quite proud of myself for that.

So, there you have it. A little that I like about me.  Gosh, that was a wierd one to write on my own blog.

So, what do you like about yourself?  What is your biggest achievement?  Have you got the right attitude to graduate from Finishing School?  I hope so, I have so enjoyed reading those who have linked their blog posts so far. One more week until the next Workshop so get posting and linking here this week.  I know it’s daunting and you’re probably waiting for one or your bloggy peers to post first but go on jump in!

Next weeks Workshop should elicit a lot of giggles.

I only read blogs, I don’t write them.
I’d love to play along, anyway.
    I like being 60.
I like that my hair is long and grey.
I like that I was able to donate an 11″ long braid of natural hair to Locks of Love (last February)and now I’m growing it out again. I like that I can knit and sew and that my Maternal Gradmother taught me these skills.
I like that I’ve lost 24 pounds since the braid donation.
I like that my wonderful daughter is a nurse.
    I like being retired.
I like knowing that in 4 days, I’ll be married for 40 years.

@Gail Sometimes I wish I only read blogs and didn’t write them. Sadly I don’t have enough time to read the many wonderful blogs out there but I am glad people like you do as it makes the effort we put into writing them worth while. Marriage for 40 years is an amazing achievement. I’ve been married for 12 years this December and feel proud of that so I can’t imagine how proud you must be after 40 years. Are you doing anything nice to celebrate?
